Let it Snow !!

Hello everyone.

It's been a couple of weeks since I managed to get on here and catch up on what has been going on at the club, I've been rather busy lately but now I'm sitting here in the warm on a snowy evening and it gives me the perfect opportunity....

Last week we had another taste of papercrafting as we created some lovely decorated tree chocolates, adorned with Santas and Rudolphs and choir boys made using paper punched shapes yet again.

Once again everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, maybe it was the chocolate...lol...and for some of us we also had the Knitting and Needlecraft Show at Harrogate to look forward to on Thursday.

This was my first visit to this particular show, held at The International Exhibition Centre in Harrogate, as well as trade stands selling every imaginable yarn, bead, fabric and tools that you didn't even know you didn't need, there was a fantastic exhibition of craft work and demonstations of many varied techniques. I was left feeling that there just isn't enough time to try everything....but I'm going to have a darned good attempt, I really love trying new things out. I came home with some more varigated yarn to make "Those" Scarves and lots of lovely little beads, almost too nice to use, I owe Linda a huge thank you, I think, for pointing me in the right direction to find these little beauties.

Friday morning through to Monday evening saw Kate and I ensconced at The Viking Centre in Claxby sharing a Crafty Christmas (Including a tree and lights, Secret Santa and Christmas Dinner and Crackers) with six other crafters who have become really good friends over the years, although the weather meant that some other people who were going to join us for part of the weekend couldn't make it, we had a lovely time and look forward to the next Claxby event. Kate and I organise these weekends three times a year and hope that there will be more of our local crafters able to join us in the future.

Today I was once again off to Harrogate to take my eldest daughter home, the weather was reasonably kind on our way to Harrogate but closed in on the way home and I was really glad to get home in one piece.

This evening Sylvia telephoned me to tell me that we had had a reply to our funding bid and the good news is that our bid has passed the first stage and we are now required to put in a more detailed submission. Carol (from the Hub)has offered to help us with this, for which I for one am very grateful. One of the things that will help us to get funds for our club is evidence that the club does what we say it does, so letters from members, telling their own stories of what the club means to them would provide very good evidence to add to the bid. If you would like to help with this please e-mail your letter to Stella at the Hub, as soon as possible. e-mail address : rasenhub@live.co.uk
We want to get the bid in as soon as possible, it would be a wonderful Christmas present to us all if we can get the money to buy some equipment for the club.
I'm not sure about getting to craft club tomorrow, the roads out here are pretty awful at the moment, but if I can't make it, I shall look forward to seeing you all soon.

Bye for now

Wednesday 27th October

This week we once again met at the Mill Street rooms owned by C&G Partnership. This was an informal week with everyone bringing their own projects to work on, as well as books that might be of interest to other crafters, including Hook, Loop and Lock by Theresa Pulido and Quilt yourself Gorgeous by Mandy Shaw, both available through Amazon. We were also treated to news on the latest funky yarns for knitting scarves etc.

We also talked about the Knitting and Sewing Show due to be held at Harrogate from 25th November, we could look into making it a group trip by sharing cars or hiring a minibus depending on interest. Please let me know if you are interested in going to Harrogate, and if so which day, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. More details will be available nearer the time.

Time flew as it always does when you are enjoying yourself, and it was soon time to say goodbye until next week.

PLEASE NOTE we should be at The Church Room next week but I heard today that it will not be available, please check on here for further details regarding next week's venue.

Bye for now

Last Week at The Hub Craft Club.

So sorry everyone for not posting before now, life just seems to get busier and busier.

Last week at the Hub Craft Club, we met at the Mill Street Rooms owned by C&G Partnership, and I had the pleasure of introducing those present to more papercraft projects using paper punches, we also made name badges using a Cuttlebug Machine to die cut letters.

The paper projects were 3D flowers and leaves starting with punched shapes, it is amazing what can be done with the addition of a little ink or water and a brad or glue. A leaf, a rose, a pansy and a daisy type flower.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, if the chatter and laughter were anything to go by, and I certainly had fun sharing these techniques with everyone.

This week (Wednesday 27th October) we are at Mill Street again, bring along your own projects, or anything you would like to show and tell about, especially craft books you have ffound useful / enjoyable or want to swap.

See you all on Wednesday.

Bye for now.

Our first Outside Speaker.

This Wednesday our club welcomed two new members, Tina and Emily, I am really pleased to welcome them to the club.
We were also visited by a lady called Betty Swallow , our first outside speaker. Betty has belonged to a craft group similar to ours for many years and was able to tell us a little about how they organise themselves, from what she described and from my own observations of how we are all enjoying ourselves it would seem that our own club is heading along a very positive and creative path. Betty also brought samples of handstitched patchwork, cards and other crafts such as a padded and material covered box to show us. Betty talked about how she got ideas for cards even from the most mundane everyday items such as a cereal box and offered everyone the opportunity to make one of her cards.

I would like to thank Stella and Marie for helping make the tea and coffee and also thanks to everyone who helped tidy up, wash up etc it is much more fun when we all muck in.

Please remember that for the next two weeks we are back in the Room owned by C&G Partnership in Mill Lane. Next week we will have a go at making ourselves name badges and I'll see if I can find another punch project for us to do.

Thanks again for your company everyone, I really look forward to Wednesday afternoons.

This week at The Hub Craft Club.

Hello again everyone.

First an apology, It's been a busy week for me this week and taken me a bit longer than I would have liked to get around to this post.

This was our first week, meeting in the Church Rooms, the venue was good and accommodated us well, the only thing we had forgotten was the need to bring our own Tea, Coffee etc. however a quick trip to the CO-OP soon sorted that.

This week Marie had generously offered to demonstrate sugar paste modelling, a craft which I have admired from a distance but never attempted, in fact Marie's demonstration was the first time that I had seen sugar paste transformed into delicate and realistic flowers. Although Marie has been making beautiful sugar craft creations for some while, actually demonstrating the technique to our group was a new experience and I must thank her for sharing her craft with the rest of us.

As you will all realise from Marie's demonstration, sugar craft takes time, allowing petals etc to dry between being made and then assembled, and it would not have been possible for us aall to have a go on Tuesday but if anyone is interested in doing a workshop with Marie, please let her know, she has said that she would be happy to work with a small group of people if they would like to try this craft for themselves.

That's it for now folks except to remind you to look at the Important Information Section (In the side bar) and a New Section I have added called What's On Where. Where we can put information about local events of interest tto crafters.

Bye for now.

Welcome to the Hub Craft Club blog.

Hello and Welcome to the Hub Craft Club Blog.

Congratulations if you have found us.

The Hub Craft Club is now a month old, although due to a disastrous flood at The Hub in Union Street, Market Rasen, we haven't yet had the opportunity to get together there, although restoration work is going on even as I type this and we hope the Hub will be back to normal very soon.

The Idea for the Hub Craft Club came originally from Ges Soutter of Patchings, a patchwork studio and workshop based in the Hub, following a chance conversation about the lack of a general craft club in the Market Rasen Area  with Stella Tuplin (Hub Administrator), Anne Skelton, and Barbara Hancock (Paper crafter & Independant Stampin' Up! Demonstrator ), way back in the spring of this year. Ges and Barbara then took the opportunity to spread the word about their own crafting ventures and canvass people who attended The Market Rasen Gardener's Fair in June of this year regarding interest in forming a craft club, and the rest as they say is history.

The first meeting of the club on Wednesday 9th September found Anne, Ges, Stella and Barbara at the Studio of C&G Partnership, at 1:45pm wondering if anyone else would come and join them, then to our astonishment people began to arrive and introduce themselves and the club was a reality with more than 14 people in attendance.

During the first meeting we each talked about the crafts we enjoyed ....(are addicted to) things we had tried in the past .....(almost every craft you can imagine), where we lived, and how much we had been looking forward to getting together to craft with a group of like minded people. Then Barbara got everyone involved in a couple of Paper craft projects, an Owl Fridge Magnet and a little gift bag, a cup of tea or coffee and the two hours had flown, our fist meeting was over except to decide what we would do the following week.

Week Two SHOW and TELL

We decided that for our second meeting we would each bring a project or two to show the rest of the group and something of our own to do if time allowed, we would then have a better idea of what people were actually making at present and get ideas for crafts that people might like to try out...... Including beading, sugar craft, and even kniting with strips of old tee shirts !!!........ This made it to number one project for everyone to try in week three. Again the time flew and before we knew it, it was time to pack up and go home, already the feeling of being with friends (or fellow craft addicts) was evident.

Week Three  TEE-SHIRT TRAWL.

A trawl of all the local charity shops during the week, our crafty cupboards, attics etc brought to light enough Big Knitting Needles and old teeshirts to allow everyone who wanted to, to have a go at this quick and easy way to recycle old tee shirts into useful and desireable? objects, rather than consign them to the rag bag. Lots of chatter and laughter accompanied our first efforts, with promises to bring the fruits of our labours to show everyone next week. Linda offered to initiate us into the art of beading and told us what we would need to bring with us the following week.

Week Four  BEADING FOR BEGINNERS.

Can it really only be the fourth time we have held The Hub Craft Club? It is beginning to feel like we have always known one another, lots of chatter and laughter before we got down to the serious business of learning to create a spiral staircase bracelet using tiny seed beads, to be fair this project was not suited to all, not everyone was a complete novice to beading or they felt they didn't have the eyesight or dexterity for this project and the light (or lack of it) didn't help either, but after Linda produced some lager beads more people were able to give the project a go, and the afternoon was still enjoyable for everyone. Linda was an excellent and patient teacher, but soon it was time to go home, although not before we had chance to see the wonderful sugar paste flowers that we will attempt to make next week. We also discussed the idea of a Blog to help keep us all in touch with what is happening, where we are meeting etc, until the Hub is properly available for use, and what we are doing each week. This way anyone who misses a week can still find out what is going on, and what they need to bring to the next session.

So here is the Blog. Please use the comments facility to let us know what you would like to see included, help us to make this your space as well as ours.

We will try to put pictures of what members have made, project instructions, and details of any up and coming workshops on here, please let us know what else you would like to see.

NEXT WEEK:

Sugar paste flowers. meeting in the church rooms in the market square, you do not need to bring any equipment for this session.

Well that is enough from us for now.

Take care of yourselves.
